Tips for keeping energised throughout the day
Sometimes we can all find it difficult to stay energised throughout the day, particularly during the colder and darker months. But did you know that there are things that you can do, and avoid, to keep your energy levels up?
Diet
Eat a healthy and balanced diet, including lots of fruit and vegetables. Avoid very sugary or caffeinated food and drinks, as although these may make you feel energised to start with, this will wear off quickly. Include foods in your diet that release energy slowly, such as starchy and wholemeal carbohydrates.
Exercise
It may sound counter-intuitive but being a couch potato can actually leave you feeling more tired. The NHS recommend 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per week which could include brisk walking, riding a bike or even rollerblading.
Get outside
Being outside and soaking up natural daylight is a great way to boost your energy. Even better, you can combine this with your regular exercise. Make the most of your downtime It’s great to aim to be productive, but make sure you are taking time to relax too.
Allowing yourself the time to wind down as part of your routine is also great for your sleep.
